Rae shared on twitter this lovely photo on her Tumblr, commmenting: "Just look at those gorgeous colors, though."
Impulsively I replied: "I just saw it too and though: How to describe it in under 100 words... Would be a nifty contest..."
Then I took the pen to the paper and wrote this:
Uneven parallel wheel tracks dug black trails in dried grasses tousled like rusty Irish hair, leading and disappearing left.
Leaves from weavy trees lay as spotty first snow.
Dark and grey sentinels, tree trunks faded to fog in their multitude, betraying pale sunlight to ruddy browns on low bushes, reaching above in dark menace, heralding the owl's nightly domain.
