The Date

Your eyes in mine smiling
Me, speechless
Your hand in mine
Your fingers moving
To the words you were thinking

The restaurant was quiet now
We were the last couple
The sunset had turned to stars
On a warm Summer night

Would you like something else?
You didn’t answer
Your eyes were a mystery
I looked at the waiter
Gave him my credit card

You stood so close to me
When the valet brought the car
Was it the chill
Or something else

I tipped the man
Who with a smile
Held the door for you
And for me too

You fell asleep in the car
I drove very carefully
Unbelievably lucky
To have you as my wife
