The Silver Dress

She wore a silver dress
on her wedding day
that she had sown
all by herself.

The husband-to-be
she had never met
wore a black jacket,
was said to be rich.

His flock of sheep
stretched as far away
as the eye can see,
they all said.

His servant carried
gold and rich spices:
Gifts and payment
for her family.

She stretched her neck up
to glance at his face.
Her heart rejoiced!
For he was kindly.
